About Jane Willoughby
Jane Willoughby is a Dublin (and Kilkenny) based decorative artist specialising in hand painted panels inspired by Art History.
HOW IT ALL STARTED....
Qualifying first as an Interior Designer, Jane Willoughby went on to specialise as a decorative painter. Working for many years in this area she designed and implemented large-scale mural and painted schemes in Dublin town houses, such as' Deepwell', Country Clubs such as The K Club and Mount Juliet, as well as Private Country houses.
PRESS........
"On entering, the visitor is met with a soft hallway running along the length of the house whose walls are painted with a massive landscape where high skies, a lake and trees, form an idealised landscape. The overall tone of Willoughby's work is one of soft greyish colours, which is easy on the eye and fits very well with the overall decor"

ART HISTORY...........
Jane also holds an Honours Degree in Art History and Heritage providing much of the inspiration for her painting which now consists of hand-painted decorative panels on canvas.
NEW WORK......
Jane's recent work reflects her continuing fascination with decorative motifs such as Chinoiserie and Grotesques as well as new experimentation with the decorative qualities of Renaissance portraits i.e. beautiful paintings of young girls presented for marriage in the finest jewels and clothes. Historical paintings of war horses dressed in elaborate tack, sometimes festooned with precious metals and gems are the inspiration for her stylised horse heads. These works use very light pigment with 24kt gilt on raw Italian Linen. large mixed media canvases feature portrait silhouettes and use linen fabric, metal, gilt and jewels.
The large 150cm x 100cm 'Queen' based on the Velasquez portrait of Mariana of Austria - the "Menina'- is a lot of fun, available for commission she can be customised to 'hold' personalised items for a client.
